Over the past years, we have received recurring feedback from clients working with our platforms. Many of them highlighted the need for a safe and efficient solution for crew transfers between vessels and the platform. Building on the input recieved, our engineering team started the development of a dedicated C-7 boat landing.

Engineering the C-7 Boat Landing

Our in-house engineering team carried out the complete development of the boat landing. The main objective was to create a design that integrates seamlessly with the modular C-7 platform while still meeting operational, transport, and safety requirements.

Developing such a structure proved to be an interesting technical challenge. The design had to combine robustness with flexibility, while also remaining easy to transport and install. From the first concept sketches to the final drawings, the engineers carefully reviewed each element of the structure. They focused on installation procedures, transportability, and safe personnel transfer operations.

The engineering team spent considerable time reviewing the design and refining the details throughout the development process. Multiple internal reviews ensured that the final solution aligns with the operational requirements that our clients experience in the field.

Operational Design and Functionality

The final design offers a robust and practical solution for personnel transfer between crew transfer vessels and the platform.

In its operational position, the ladder extends approximately 6.4 meters below the hull. This configuration allows crew transfer vessels to approach the platform safely while providing reliable access for personnel.

During mobilisation or towing, operators can place the structure in a transport position above deck level. This reduces resistance and minimizes loads during transport, which improves both safety and efficiency.

Modular Integration and Safety Features

In line with the Combifloat philosophy, the design integrates fully with the modular platform system. Operators can connect the boat landing on both the male and female sides of the platform. This flexibility allows positioning to match different project layouts and operational requirements.

The structure also includes an integrated fall-arrester connection and certified lifting points. These features support safe installation and ensure compliance with modern safety standards used across the offshore and marine construction industries.

Transport and Logistics

Transportability formed an important part of the design process. The engineers therefore designed the boat landing to be transported in several sections. This allows the structure to fit inside a standard 40-foot container.

As a result, mobilisation becomes straightforward and efficient. The boat landing can travel together with the rest of the platform equipment without requiring specialized transport solutions.

Looking Ahead

Combifloat is currently manufacturing several of these C-7 boat landings for future projects and clients. The solution will become part of the available equipment for clients operating platforms in a wide range of marine construction activities.

Following the positive feedback received and the continued interest in the C-7 platform, Combifloat is also working on a dedicated boat landing for the C-5 platform. While still under development, this initiative reflects our ongoing efforts to further expand safe and efficient personnel access solutions across the Combifloat fleet
